RELIANCE PERPETUAL

The Herreshoff Reliance Perpetual Trophy was commissioned by the Ancient Mariner Sailing Society and dedicated in 1975 to recognize the fastest long course and short course yacht in the AMSS sponsored Yesteryear Regatta. This trophy was commissioned by AMSS and built by longtime AMSS member Del Cover.

This is one of the most sought after trophies in the Yesteryear Regatta and has served to attract some very fast yachts. The Reliance is a fitting hull for this trophy since she was well recognized as one of the fastest boats of and long after her time. The Reliance was designed by Nathaniel Herreshoff and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company for the 1903 America’s Cup, which she convincingly won.

HERRESHOFF PERPETUAL

H2.jpg

The Herreshoff Perpetual Trophy was donated by Bill Clark and dedicated in 1974 in order to recognize participation by Herreshoff yachts in the Ancient Mariner Sailing Society sponsored Yesteryear Regatta.

The trophy is awarded to the top Herreshoff yacht on Corrected Time. In 2002, the eligibility for winning this trophy was extended to include yachts built by Herreshoff to another designer’s design if no yacht both designed and built by Herreshoff is entered.

The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company was one of the best Boatbuilders of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Herreshoff was most famous for building a number of America’s Cup winning yachts. The yard also supported many other America’s Cup syndicates by providing rigging and haul-out services for yachts designed and built at other yards.
